Nigeria’s New Stablecoin Rules Raise Compliance Requirements for Fintech Firms
The Central Bank of Nigeria’s regulations, issued on 5 November, establish licensing and capital rules for stablecoin issuers and other non-security virtual asset providers. Minimum capital is ₦10 billion for naira-backed stablecoin issuers, ₦15 billion for foreign-currency-backed issuers and ₦1 billion for other covered virtual asset service providers. The changes create demand for compliance technology, cybersecurity, identity verification and digital payment infrastructure. HPC can connect fintech companies with technology and regulatory specialists.
