South Africa’s Gas-to-Power Tender Receives No Successful Bidders
On 1 November, reporting on the government’s Gas Independent Power Producer Procurement Programme highlighted that no preferred bidders were appointed for its first bid window, which sought 2,000 MW of generation capacity. Four bids had offered a combined 2,830 MW, but none met the mandatory gas-supply requirements. No power-purchase contract or project award value was confirmed. The outcome creates opportunities in gas infrastructure, LNG supply, energy consulting and project restructuring. HPC can support energy-market research, investor identification and infrastructure partnership planning.
