Thailand’s EV Tax Change Signals a Shift Towards Local Automotive Manufacturing

On 3 November, Thailand approved a tax increase on fully imported battery-electric vehicles from 10% to 35%, starting in January 2027. The change is intended to encourage domestic production and strengthen local automotive supply chains. On 5 November, officials also discussed a possible pickup-truck trade-in scheme, although eligibility, subsidy amounts and implementation details remain undecided. These developments create demand for automotive pricing research, consumer-demand analysis and policy-impact forecasting.
