Maldives Reduces Resort-Island Lease Costs to Support Tourism Development

On 19 October, the Tourism Ministry's revised cross-subsidy scheme lowered island lease charges in six atolls and Addu City. The reported changes include a USD 100,000 reduction in the base rate for each applicable area, a USD 15,000 reduction in the per-hectare charge and a USD 500,000 premium for the largest islands. The figures describe lease terms, not confirmed resort construction budgets.
